Property Description
South Hall Manor in the Parish of East Tilbury, Essex, consisted of a wharf, arable land, and marsh land variously measured as 192a.0r.9p. in 1735, 189a.24.6p. in 1773, 196a.0r.27p. in 1796, and 201a.2r.32p. in 1825. An 1824 surveyors report describes the property as follows: "about 57 acres are Arable 115 Marsh Pasture and 20 acres Saltings and feed upon the Common Salts during the Summer for about 25 Sheep". The War Department compulsorily purchased 19a.2r.6p. in 1861 and a further 4a.1r.36p. in 1863. The 1874 survey describes it as "South Hall Farm, East Tilbury. In the occupation of Mr. William Taylor Meeson with a brick and slated bailiffs house, containing five rooms, poultry house, horse boxes, barn, cow house, stable, granary, and cart shed" and shows 176a.1r.30p. remaining in the property distributed as follows:
